A conservatory trained composer and pianist, singer-composer Kira Fontana fuses the depth of classical music, the shimmering textures of minimalism and the emotional drive of indie rock to create an authentically expressive, timeless sound that's been simmering beneath mainstream music's genre-blending stratum. From influences as diverse as minimalists Steve Reich and Arvo Pärt, to Björk, Sigur Rós, Balinese Gamelan and Classical Indian music, Kira's soulful vocals, mystical lyrics and near-orchestral rock arrangements are winning her a passionate listener base across the world. As one fan wrote, “A beautiful and breathtaking fusion of styles... the pure emotion that takes you over while listening is an unforgettable experience.”
Kira released 'The Inner Revolution', her stunning debut collection of 7 songs mixed by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You Black Emperor), in late 2007 on her own Spark the Fire Records. In 2010 she went back into the studio to record the new single 'War Within' with Grammy-award winning engineer/mixer Ryan Freeland.
Kira performs and records with a rotating roster of phenomenal musicians in both the rock and classical worlds, including members of New York's acclaimed contemporary ensembles Alarm Will Sound and So Percussion. A partial list of is on left side.
